The International Forum "Digital Transformation of National Statistical Systems" was held in Astana, (Republic of Kazakhstan), timed to coincide with the 105th anniversary of Kazakhstan's state statistics.

The CIS Statistical Committee acted as a co-organizer of this large-scale event.

The Forum was attended by representatives of national statistical services from the CIS region, Hungary, Georgia, Poland, China, Serbia, Indonesia, representatives of international organizations: UNECE, ESCAP, OECD, UNIDO, SESRIC, UNICEF, the World Bank, etc., international statistics experts, as well as representatives of science, business and the diplomatic corps.

At the opening of the Forum Mr. K.E. Laykam, Chairman of the Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS, read a greeting to the participants from Mr. D.A. Trefilov, CIS Deputy Secretary-General.

On behalf of the CIS-STAT he also congratulated the Bureau on National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan on its 105th anniversary and wished everyone a productive work.

At a session dedicated to the digital transformation of national statistical systems, Mr. K.E. Laykam shared with the audience information on the activities implemented in response to modern challenges by the CIS Statistical Committee in the field of IT technologies as part of the Project «Development of CIS Statistics»". In his presentation, Mr. K.E. Laykam emphasized the automation of data collection processes, formats and standards for their dissemination, including those based on semantic models and digital ontologies, the use of big and administrative data in statistics, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

During the session "Data Quality and its Growing Value in the Modern World," Ms. I.A. Mazayskaya, Deputy Chairperson of the Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS, shared with the Forum participants information on the steps the CIS-STAT was taking to ensure the harmonization of data and metadata within the International Statistical Data Hub as well as the implementation of linked open data, with a particular focus on ensuring data comparability and metadata relationships within the Hub information systems.
